[edit] New Features On Ikariam

1. New Alliances Page For UK World Ny Click here to see
2. Vineyard coming out next month Vineyard

The News template would simply have the news in it. The link in the page would take you to the temlate which could be edited in isolation. (Which means if we ever protect the main page, the news can still be updated).

6/26/08 Experiments in Layouts
Research affects the amounts to spend on any building, so we're looking at different ways to show 4 different values (Raw, with Pulley, with Geometry, and with Spirit Level). Our original way of presenting the information was simply to use tables of raw numbers, and don't do the math. A second iteration has the reduction numbers showing as tooltips as you hover over the numbers. A third iteration is to have the reductions stacked in the individual cells. A fourth iteration may yet show its head. If you see raw numbers, do not change them -- they are correct, even if you see them differently. You see them differently because you have Pulley or Geometry or Spirit Level affecting your amount lists, and Ikariam's in-game help changes its table values to match your reduction level. BTW, we're glad you stopped by! Please join us in making WikIkariam what it should be: the best way to get the most accurate information about Ikariam.

Special thanks goes to Polytherion for adding the template Alt-Lang to all if not most all of our main pages ingame now!
Thank You Polytherion -- ( Morph | Contribs | Talk ) 14:58, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

New template Alt-Lang adds the country code to the page and has a link with the flag for that country as well - just have to know country code and page name on that country ( no page name will go to main page of the wiki)

That's pushing the idea of the Template a bit farther than I first thought, but .... "why not?" except it's what, up to two clicks to edit the news? --Crythias on http://Ikariam.org Lambda | IFT (Contribs | Talk) 22:21, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

The example I had did a one click edit like any normal page. I'm not sure why it's now two, but it really doesn't bother me in the slightest.!! Scaremonger 23:57, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
The only reason I made the change from your way only was because I wantd the "edit" button in with the title of the section ( I would love to have it with 1 click edit like you had it as well - but the only way I see that at moment is to use tables like in the AoC example I posted below -- ( Morph on http://Ikariam.com | Contribs | Talk ) -- 00:09, 28 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] I cheated

I did a really weird thing. === === This forced a section with a Non Breakable SPace ... since there's only one, for now, anyway, I forced added an edit link pointing to the section. I don't recommend this, but at least it minimizes the amount of section edits... --Crythias on http://Ikariam.org Lambda | IFT (Contribs | Talk) 20:37, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

Thats a bit better Scaremonger 20:56, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
I umm removed the NBSP section but I edited the templates HeadingB and HeadingA and made templates HeadingAedit and HeadingB edit ( they are the same as before but they have a Edit button that Creates a template with the same name as the Title ( or {} ) and all you do is put Title to show he info - use same title as in the HeadingAedit or HeadingBedit (this way the edit button is in the sectional title -- I hope I did not mess you up ?? -- ( Morph on http://Ikariam.com | Contribs | Talk ) -- 23:23, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
I got the idea from AoC (Age of Conan) - but theirs looks better because they used Tables for everything not the Heading templates themselves so they put the Edit buttons (when they wanted edit section) to the FAR right - take a look here Age of Conan -- ( Morph on http://Ikariam.com | Contribs | Talk ) -- 23:30, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

You could have put the edit into the HeadingA as a variable, something like this: Scaremonger 00:08, 28 June 2008 (UTC)

All this needs then in the template is an IF. The template would then look like this:

<h2 style="padding:0.2em 0.4em; margin:0 0 10px 0; border:1px solid #a3bfb1; background:#cef2e0; color:#000; font-size:120%; font-weight:bold; text-align:left;">{}{{#if: {}|   action=edit}} <small>Edit</small>|}}</h2><noinclude></noinclude> Scaremonger 00:08, 28 June 2008 (UTC)

I didnt know how to do all that - if you want go for it - you know more about it than I do - I mainly just copy templates - make few minor modifications and go from there - I dont realy know much about them otherwise -- but I think it would be {} not {} since 1 is for the 1st parameter aka Title of section ? -- ( Morph on http://Ikariam.com | Contribs | Talk ) -- 00:13, 28 June 2008 (UTC)
Give it a go. I've changed two of the links in the Main page. These will make the HeadingAedit template redundant (It's late here now, so I'm off to bed, but i'll check back again tomorrow). Scaremonger 00:24, 28 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Two-column layout breaks on Firefox

If my window is any narrower than 1100 pixels, the first column is cut off, overlapped by the second one. Not sure how I feel about the fancy layout here; of course it doesn't need a lot of edits by amateurs, but I still feel it should be kept kinda simple, it's still a Wiki :) Chupchup 05:54, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

Hmm, do you have a screenshot? Kirkburn (talk) 16:07, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
Yep, here are two. Chupchup 22:34, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
I use Firefox all the time and it doesn;t look like that!. Have you tried Holding down Ctrl and using the mouse wheel when on the page to reduce the font size? Scaremonger 19:51, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
Hmm, your font size is very large, which it is not really designed for (but I cannot hold it against you). My main sugestion would be that you will gain more width if you switch to the Monaco skin. Kirkburn (talk) 12:24, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
Web pages should be able to cope with any reasonable font size. Also, I happen like the MonoBook skin. These preferences are a matter of taste, and this page shouldn't break because of a user's valid preferences. Chupchup 03:46, 25 July 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Connecting Language bar to other langues and proper pages

To make other languages show up in the language bar add the following language tags to the page - (Note: These links are for the MAIN page of each language):

en: = English
nl: = Nederland (Dutch)
fi: = Finland (Finnish)
fr: = France (French)
hu: = Hungary
pl: = Poland (Polish)
sr: = Serbia (Serbian)
sv: = Sweden (Swedish)

The same links with a page name will take you to that specific page in that language (If the page exists):

en:List_of_buildings = English List of buildings
en:Category:Buildings = English Category:Buildings
nl:Lijst_van_gebouwen = Dutch List of buildings
fi:Rakennukset = Finnish Buildings
fr:B%C3%A2timents = French Buildings
hu:Kateg%C3%B3ria:%C3%89p%C3%BCletek = Hungary Category:Buildings
pl:Kategoria:Budynki = Polish Category:Buildings
sr:List_of_buildings = Serberian List of buildings
sv:Kategori:Byggnader = Swedish Category:Buildings
sv:Byggnader = Swedish Buildings
